Principal's Message
Dear Randolph Union Middle High School Community,
Welcome to our website. I am hopeful that as you navigate this page you will see photographs of students engaging in learning in engaging and meaningful ways. We are located in the geographic center or heart of Vermont. Students attend RU from Braintree, Brookfield, and Randolph, Vermont as well as surrounding communities that offer school choice.
Our focus on the sciences, STEM, Project Based Learning, as well as supporting the whole student set us apart from other public schools located in our region.
Additionally, we work hard to ensure that students who want to see the world beyond our community have those opportunities. This school year students in our Archaeology class traveled to Crow Canyon, Colorado to experience and archaeological dig firsthand, our French program traveled to Morocco, students in our Marine Ecology Class traveled to Key Largo to visit Marine Lab, snorkel and observe the impact of climate change on the coral reef, and students engaged in a cultural exchange have recently traveled to Japan. All of these experiences are backed up by class work that pushes our students to think beyond our small, supportive communities.
Although we are a small school we offer a fine arts program, including theater and dance, both French and Spanish, STEM courses including robotics, engineering, and computer sciences, AP classes in all core content areas (Science, Math, Social Studies, and English) as well as others.
Our Student Services department is staffed with caring, supportive school counselors who help students navigate facets of their academic and personal lives. This team is composed of two school counselors, a dedicated mental health clinician, a school nurse, nurse practitioner, and a Student Assistance Program Counselor. We are proud of the work they do, everyday to support students, from pushing into classes, helping students to determine and navigate a flexible pathway to accomplish their goals including applying to and attending competitive colleges and universities, to substance cessation efforts, this team works tirelessly to support our students.
Through our Advisory program we offer Social Emotional support and education while also teaching students the skills of reflection, self advocacy, and effective communication. Students learn to lead conferences with their families twice annually through advisory and portfolio defenses that prompt them to reflect and present their learning round out their 8th and 10th grade experiences as well as provide strong scaffolding to prepare them for their Senior Project Capstone.
Please reach out to hear more about our dynamic school community.
Sincerely,
Lisa Manning Floyd
